Removing
1. Remove the battery and bracket.
2. Remove the air line.
3. Disconnect the transmission solenoid, interlock switch, and speed sensor connectors.
4. Disconnect the throttle cable from the engine side.
5. Drain the ATF.
6. Remove the bottom and side shields.
7. Disconnect the control cable from the gearbox.
8. Disconnect the oil cooler hoses.
9. Remove drive shafts (see chapter «Front suspension»).
10. Remove a reception pipe of final system.
11. Remove the starter.
12. Remove those front and rear support brackets, as well as the engine rear plate.
13. Turn away bolts of fastening of the hydrotransformer to a leading disk. Rotate the crankshaft for sequential access to the bolts.
14. Install a jack under the oil pan. Do not place a jack under the oil pan drain plug.
15. Establish a jack and a transmission.
16. Remove left and rear transmission mounts.
17. Turn away bolts of fastening of a transmission to the engine.
18. Lower the gearbox down on the jack and remove it from under the car.
Installation
1. Check drive disc runout (see chapter «Engine»). If it exceeds the allowed values, replace the disk.
2. When connecting the torque converter to the gearbox, measure distance A. When properly assembled, it should have the following value:
- Model 34X81 - at least 15.9 mm
- Other models - at least 21.1 mm
3. Connect the torque converter to the drive plate. After that, turn the crankshaft several times to make sure there are no beats.
4. Tighten the gearbox mounting bolts.
5. Install all removed parts.
6. Adjust throttle cable and transmission control cable (see relevant sections of this chapter).
7. Check the lock switch (see section «Checking electrical components»).
8. Fill ATF into the gearbox and check its level (see chapter «Maintenance»).
9. Set the selector to each of the positions to make sure that the gearbox is working properly. Start the engine by applying the parking brake. Move the selector from N to D, to 2, to 1 and to R. A slight push should be felt on the selector handle with each shift.
10. Do road tests (see relevant section of this chapter).
