Removal
1. Remove the battery and bracket.
2. Remove the air duct.
3. Disconnect the transmission solenoid, lock switch and speed sensor connectors.
4. Disconnect the throttle cable from the engine side.
5. Drain the ATF.
6. Remove the lower and side shields.
7. Disconnect the control cable from the gearbox.
8. Disconnect the oil cooler hoses.
9. Remove the drive shafts (see chapter "Front suspension").
10. Remove the exhaust pipe.
11. Remove the starter.
12. Remove the front and rear support brackets and the rear engine plate.

13. Loosen the torque converter mounting bolts to the drive disk. Rotate the crankshaft to gain sequential access to the bolts.
14. Place a jack under the oil pan. Do not place the jack under the oil pan drain plug.
15. Install the jack under the gearbox.
16. Remove the left and rear transmission mounts.
17. Loosen the bolts securing the gearbox to the engine.
18. Lower the gearbox down on the jack and remove it from under the car.
Installation
1. Check the runout of the drive disk (see chapter "Engine"). If it exceeds the permissible values, replace the disk.
2. When connecting the torque converter to the gearbox, measure the distance A. When assembled correctly, it should have the following value:
- Model 34X81 - not less than 15.9 mm
- Other models - not less than 21.1 mm
3. Connect the torque converter to the drive disk. Then turn the crankshaft several times to ensure there is no beating.
4. Tighten the gearbox mounting bolts.
5. Install all removed parts.
6. Adjust the throttle cable and transmission control cable (see the relevant sections of this chapter).
7. Check the lock switch (see section "Checking electrical components").
8. Fill the gearbox with ATF and check its level (see chapter "Maintenance").
9. Move the selector lever to each position to ensure that the transmission operates normally. Start the engine with the parking brake applied. Move the selector lever from N to D to 2 to 1 to R. Each time you shift, you should feel a slight jolt on the selector lever.
10. Perform road tests (see the relevant section of this chapter).
