Visual inspection of the camshaft
Check for burrs and wear.
If any defects are found, replace the camshaft.
Camshaft runout
Place the camshaft on the prisms under main journals No.1 and 5.
Place the indicator probe vertically on neck No.3.
Turn the camshaft manually in one direction and record the maximum deflection of the indicator needle.
The runout is equal to ½ the deviation of the indicator arrow.
- Limit runout: 0.05 mm

Camshaft lobe height
Measure the cam height with a micrometer.

Standard height:
- Inlet: 39.6±0.095mm
- Release: 40.0+0.095 mm
Oil clearance in camshaft journals
Outside diameter of camshaft journals
Measure the camshaft journal diameters with a micrometer.

Standard diameter:
- Neck #1: 30.435-30.455 mm
- Necks #2-5: 23.935-23.955 mm
Inner diameter of camshaft brackets
Tighten the camshaft bracket bolts to the specified torque.
Measure the inside diameter of the camshaft bracket using a bore gauge.

Standard diameter:
- Bracket 1: 30.500-30.521 mm
- Brackets 2-5: 24.000-24.021 mm
Calculation of oil clearance in camshaft journals
(Oil clearance) = (Inner diameter of the bracket) - (Outside diameter of the neck)
- Standard clearance: 0.045-0.086 mm
If the oil clearance in the camshaft journals exceeds the standard, look at the diameter measurements of each part and replace the cylinder head assembly and/or camshaft.
Note: Since the camshaft brackets are manufactured together with the cylinder head, they cannot be replaced separately.
Camshaft axial play
Place the indicator on the front end of the camshaft and measure the axial play by moving the camshaft back and forth in the axial direction.

- Standard clearance: 0.070-0.148 mm
- Maximum clearance: 0.24 mm
If the clearance is greater than the limit, replace the camshaft and recheck.
If the axial clearance is greater than the nominal value upon rechecking, replace the cylinder head.
Camshaft Sprocket Runout
Using an indicator, measure the runout of the camshaft sprocket.

- Limit runout: 0.15 mm
Visual inspection of valve lifters
Check the valve lifters for scoring and wear. If any defects are found, replace the lifter.
Visual inspection of adjusting washers
Check the adjusting washers for scoring and wear where they contact the cam. If any defects are found, replace the washer.

Valve tappet clearance
Measuring the outside diameter of the tappet
Using a micrometer, measure the outside diameter of the tappet.

- Standard diameter: 29.960-29.975 mm
Valve tappet bore diameter
Using a bore gauge, measure the diameter of the valve tappet hole in the cylinder head.

- Standard diameter: 30,000-30,021 mm
Calculating valve tappet clearance
(Gap) = (Cylinder head bore diameter) - (Pusher diameter)
- Standard clearance: 0.025-0.061 mm
If the clearance is less than the standard, look at the diameter measurements and replace the cylinder head and/or valve tappet.
