1. Remove the drain tube.
2. Carefully wipe off the oil on top of the cylinder head with a rag (due to the fact that in paragraph 7 air purge will be done).
3. Rotate the crankshaft clockwise so that the cam lug of the shim to be removed points up.
4. Clamp with pliers (special tool) camshaft, turn the pliers in the direction of the arrow and push the valve lifter down using the camshaft as a fulcrum.
Attention: Be careful not to damage the camshaft and cylinder head.
5. In a state of compressed valve spring, fix the valve lifter with a retainer (special tool), setting its end exactly on the edge of the valve lifter. Remove the pliers (special tool).
Caution: If you turn the pliers sharply, the pushrod retainer may get on the camshaft journal and scratch it, so turn the pliers slowly.
6. Using a thin screwdriver, turn the shim with the hole towards you.
If the adjusting washer does not turn, then the latch is on the washer, so repeat step 4.
7. Using an air gun, blow through the hole in the washer so that the adjusting washer rises above the valve lifter.
Attention: To prevent splashing of oil, wipe it with a rag beforehand, and if necessary, put on safety goggles.
8. Remove the shim using the magnetic pin.
9. Using a micrometer, measure the thickness of the shim.
The measurement is made in the middle part of the washer (in the area of contact with the cam).
10. Select the required washer thickness using the following formula. Formula for calculating washer thickness (mm): t=t1+ (C1-C2)
- t: shim thickness
- t1: Thickness of removed shim
- WITH1: measured valve clearance
- WITH2: standard valve clearance
On a cold engine:
- Inlet: 0.28mm
- Outlet: 0.30 mm
On a warm engine (at 80°C):
- Inlet: 0.33mm
- Outlet: 0.37mm
Pick up a new shim of the required thickness from the markings on its reverse side.
Thickness of available shims from 2.10 mm to 2.74 mm in 0.02 mm increments (33 sizes).
11. Install the selected shim on the valve lifter.
Attention: Point the side with the marking towards the pusher.
12. Using pliers (special tool) push the valve lifter down and remove the retainer (special tool).
13. Manually turn the crankshaft 2-3 turns.
14. Check that the valve clearance is within specification.
