Removing
1. Remove the wheels from the car.
2. Release the parking brake lever and remove the brake drum. See chapter Brake system.
3. Press down on the holder and turn it, remove the shoe support pin and the brake shoe.
Attention: Do not damage the piston boots of the working cylinder.
4. Disconnect the parking brake cable from the crank arm.
Caution: Do not bend the parking brake cable.
5. Disassemble the brake shoe assembly (block, springs, bushing, regulator).
Check after removal
Friction lining thickness check
Standard Thickness: 4.5mm
Limit wear («A»): 1.5mm
Checking the inner diameter of the drum
Measuring area: contact surface with friction lining (in the center)
Standard inner diameter: 202mm
Limit inner diameter: 203.2 mm
Check for fluid leaks from the working cylinder
Check for fluid leaks from the slave cylinder.
Check for wear, damage or loose tightening. Replace if necessary.
Other checks
Visually inspect the inside of the drum for excessive wear, damage or cracks.
Visually inspect the friction lining for excessive wear, damage, or flaking of the friction material.
Check for excessive wear or damage in the sliding area of the brake pad.
Check if the return spring is stretched.
Visually inspect the mudguard for damage, cracks or deformation.
Check if the mudguard mounting bolts are loose.
Installation
1. Apply Nissan Special Brake Grease (KRF0000005) or equivalent on the sliding areas of the brake pads (shaded areas) and other components on the mud shield, indicated by arrows in the figure.
2. Shorten the adjuster by turning it.

3. Assemble the shoe, springs, adjuster, and bushing to make a brake shoe assembly.
4. Connect the parking brake cable to the crank.
5. Install the brake shoe assembly. After assembly, make sure all components are installed correctly.
Attention: Do not damage the piston boots of the working cylinder.
6. Install the brake drum. See chapter Brake system.
7. In case of installation of the new working cylinder or its repair remove air. See section «Bleeding the brake system».
8. Adjust the parking brake. See section «Parking brake».
