Programming the released gas pedal position
1. This procedure should be performed any time the ECM or throttle position sensor wiring is disconnected.
2. Make sure the accelerator pedal is fully released.
3. Turn on the ignition and wait at least 2 seconds.
4. Turn off the ignition and wait at least 10 seconds.
5. Turn on the ignition and wait at least 2 seconds.
6. Turn off the ignition and wait at least 10 seconds.
Programming the closed throttle position
1. This procedure should be performed whenever the ECM or throttle actuator wiring is disconnected.
2. Make sure the accelerator pedal is fully released.
3. Turn on the ignition, then turn it off and wait at least 10 seconds.
4. Check by ear that the throttle valve moves for 10 seconds.
Programming the throttle actuator in the idle position
1. This procedure should be performed whenever the ECM or throttle actuator wiring is disconnected, or if the idle speed or ignition timing test results are abnormal.
Note: Below is a description of programming without using a diagnostic tool.
2. Before you start programming, make sure that the following requirements are met:
- The battery voltage is not less than 12.9 V at idle speed;
- The coolant is warmed up to a temperature of 70÷95 degrees;
- PNP sensor enabled;
- Headlights, A/C and rear window heating are off (on models with DRL, set the exterior lighting switch to position 1);
- The wheels are set to the straight-ahead position;
- The car is stationary;
- The transmission is warmed up to operating temperature.
3. Program the position of the released gas pedal and closed throttle valve.
4. Start the engine and warm it up to operating temperature.
5. Turn off the ignition and wait at least 10 seconds.
6. Make sure the accelerator pedal is fully released and turn on the ignition for at least 3 seconds.
7. Within 5 seconds, fully depress and release the gas pedal 5 times in a row.
8. Wait 7 seconds, fully depress the accelerator pedal and hold it for about 20 seconds until the Failure K/L stops flashing and turns off.
9. Release the accelerator pedal within 3 seconds after the K/L light goes out.
10. Start the engine and let it idle. Increase the engine speed several times and make sure that the idle speed and ignition timing are correct Specifications.
Note: The programming diagram is shown in the illustration below.
11. If the desired result is not achieved, follow these steps:
- Make sure the throttle valve is fully closed;
- Check the PCV valve for proper operation;
- Make sure that no air is being sucked into the downdraft through the throttle valve;
- If the above three conditions are met, check the engine management system components.
