Checking the serviceability of control lamps and indicators
Close all doors, set the parking brake, fasten seat belts and turn the ignition key to the ON position without starting the engine. The following indicator lights should come on:

The lights shown below come on briefly and then go out:

If any lamp does not light during the test, this may mean that the corresponding lamp has burned out or the electrical circuit has broken. The burned-out lamp must be replaced immediately.
Control lamps
Control, airbag malfunction lamp
After turning the ignition key to the ON or START position, the airbag malfunction indicator lamp should come on for 7 seconds and then go out. This behavior of the indicator lamp means that the system is working properly. If one of the following malfunctions occurs, the airbags and pyrotechnic seat belt pretensioners require repair.
- The airbag malfunction indicator lamp lights for approximately 7 seconds after the ignition is switched on
- Airbag Malfunction Indicator Light Flashing
- The airbag malfunction indicator light does not come on at all
Until the malfunction is corrected, the supplemental restraint system (SRS) and/or pyrotechnic seat belt pretensioners will not function properly.

Brake system malfunction indicator light
This warning lamp/indicator serves both the service brake system and the parking brake.
Parking brake indicator
The indicator lights up after the parking brake is applied
Brake fluid level drop indicator light
The warning lamp warns of a dangerous drop in the brake fluid level in the brake booster reservoir.
If the indicator light comes on while the vehicle is moving with the engine running and the parking brake released, stop the vehicle and do the following:
1. Check the brake fluid level. If necessary, add brake fluid to the reservoir. For more information, see the section "Maintenance and DIY operations".
Attention: If the brake fluid level has dropped below the "MIN" mark on the tank wall, further use of the vehicle is prohibited until the vehicle's brake system has been checked at a service station.
2. If the brake fluid level is normal, you should contact a service station to check the brake system malfunction indicator lamp.
Warning: Continuing to drive on your own may be dangerous. Use a tow truck to transport your vehicle to the nearest service station. When braking a vehicle with the engine off and/or with insufficient brake fluid, the braking distance of the vehicle may increase. In addition, the force on the brake pedal and the pedal travel will increase.
Low battery indicator light
If the indicator lamp lights up with the engine running, this may indicate a malfunction in the battery charging system. Stop the engine and check the condition of the alternator drive belt. If you find that the belt is loose or damaged, or if the belt is missing, or if the indicator lamp continues to light, contact a service station immediately.
Warning: Do not continue driving the vehicle if the belt is loose, torn or missing.
Door open indicator light
The indicator light comes on if one of the vehicle doors is not closed or is not closed properly (ignition key in the ON position).
Engine Overheating Warning Light
The engine coolant temperature depends on the ambient temperature, vehicle driving conditions and mode.
After turning the ignition key to the ON position, the engine overheating indicator lamp comes on for a few seconds and then should go out. This behavior of the indicator lamp means that the system is working properly.
The engine overheating warning light comes on when the coolant temperature reaches approximately 105°C.
Attention: If the engine overheating warning light comes on, you should, following the traffic safety rules, immediately stop the car and contact a service station.
In order to reduce engine temperature when towing a trailer or climbing a hill, you should immediately reduce your vehicle speed while observing road safety regulations.
Continuing to drive when the engine is overheated may result in engine failure. See section "In case of malfunction", which provides instructions to the driver on emergency actions in case of engine overheating.
Do not remove the radiator cap until the engine has cooled down. Otherwise, there is a risk of burns from hot coolant splashes that may splash out of the radiator filler neck.
Engine Oil Pressure Drop Warning Light
The warning light warns of a dangerous drop in pressure in the engine lubrication system. If the warning light does not go out after starting the engine, or if the warning light comes on and stays on or flashes while driving the car under normal conditions, you should immediately pull over to a safe place and turn off the engine immediately. Then immediately seek help from a service station
Caution: Operating the engine while the oil pressure warning light is on may cause serious damage and engine failure.
The engine oil pressure warning light is not intended to indicate low oil level. Use the dipstick to check the oil level. For more information, refer to "Maintenance and DIY operations".
Engine Management System Malfunction Indicator/Check Lamp
Malfunction Indicator Light (Ml) (orange color)
The Ml indicator turns on for a few seconds after turning the ignition key to the ON position. This indicator behavior means that the system is working properly.
If the indicator comes on and stays on or flashes while the engine is running, it may indicate a problem with the engine management system.
The Ml indicator lights up constantly: this indicates a malfunction in the engine management system. Contact a service station to have the engine systems checked and repaired. You can get to the service station on your own, without having your car towed.
Ml indicator is blinking (if this function is available): Misfiring has been detected in the cylinders, which may cause damage to the engine management system. To avoid or reduce the risk of damage to the engine management system, follow these instructions:
- Do not exceed the speed limit of 70 km/h.
- Avoid sudden acceleration and braking.
- Avoid driving on steep inclines.
- If possible, unload the vehicle or trailer.
The Ml indicator may stop flashing and start to light continuously.
Contact a service station to check and repair engine systems. You can get to the service station on your own, without having to tow your vehicle.
Attention: Prolonged operation of the vehicle with the Ml indicator on and delay in carrying out inspections and necessary repairs will inevitably lead to deterioration of the vehicle's traction and dynamic properties, increased fuel consumption and failure of the engine management system.
Engine Management System Malfunction Indicator Lamp (red color) (if any)
After turning the ignition key to the ON position, the indicator lamp lights up for a few seconds and then goes out. This behavior of the indicator lamp means that the system is working properly.
If the indicator light comes on and stays on or flashes while the engine is running, it may indicate a fault in the engine management system.
Contact a service station to check and repair the engine systems. You can get to the service station on your own, without having to tow your car.
Attention: Prolonged operation of the vehicle with the Ml indicator lamp on and delays in checking and necessary repairs will inevitably lead to deterioration of the vehicle's traction and dynamic properties, increased fuel consumption and failure of the engine management system.
Control, malfunction lamp in the electric power steering system (EPAS)
The indicator lamp comes on after turning the ignition key to the ON position. This behavior of the lamp means that the system is working properly.
If the indicator lamp remains on after the engine has started, this means that the electric power steering is not working. The steering will continue to function, but the effort required to turn the steering wheel will be greater and it is wiser to abandon the journey
Attention:
- If the EPAS malfunction indicator lamp comes on while the vehicle is being driven, you should follow the road safety regulations and stop as soon as possible.
- In some cases, external factors may influence the EPAS indicator light to come on (in relation to the power steering) factors. If the warning light comes on, first stop as soon as possible, observing the traffic safety rules. Turn off the engine for about 20 seconds, then turn on the ignition again. If the warning light remains on, contact a service station.

Ignition switch indicator lamp (only for vehicles equipped with the system "Intelligent Key")
After turning the ignition switch to the ON position, the indicator lamp lights up for a few seconds and then goes out. This behavior of the indicator lamp means that the system is working properly.
The indicator lamp warns the driver of the position of the ignition switch.
Models with manual transmission
If you turn the ignition switch to the OFF position, the indicator lamp will start flashing and the buzzer will sound twice at the same time. Press the "PUSH" button and turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
Models with automatic transmission
When you turn the ignition switch to the OFF position, the indicator lamp will flash and the buzzer will sound twice at the same time. Check that the selector is in the P position, then turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.

Caution: The steering wheel will only lock when the ignition switch is in the LOCK position. Before leaving the vehicle, make sure the ignition switch is in the LOCK position. For more information, see "Starting the engine and driving the car".
The emergency spare key can only be removed from the ignition switch when it is in the LOCK position. Before removing the emergency spare key, make sure that the ignition switch is turned to the LOCK position. For more information, see "Starting the engine and driving the car".
If the ignition switch indicator light comes on while the vehicle is moving, contact a service station for inspection and repair.
Indicators
NATS Anti-Theft System Malfunction Indicator/Warning Light
The indicator flashes when the key or ignition switch is turned to the LOCK or Ace position (additional electricity consumers). Flashing of the indicator means that the car is equipped with the NATS* anti-theft system. If the normal operation of the anti-theft system (NATS)* is disrupted, the indicator will light continuously when the ignition is on.

Seat belt indicator and sound signal
The indicator reminds the driver to fasten his seat belt. The indicator lights up each time the ignition key is turned to the ON position. The indicator turns off after the belt is fastened. An audible signal is activated if the seat belt is not fastened in the front seat and the vehicle speed exceeds 25 km/h. The signal turns off after approximately 90 seconds.
Note: The front passenger seat belt reminder light is located in the center console. See "Seats, Belts and Air Bags"
System malfunction indicator and control lamp "Intelligent Key" (if any)
System indicator "intelligent Key" (green color)
The indicator lights up if the ignition key is in the LOCK position with the brake pedal pressed and the system remote control "Intelligent Key" is in the car In the ACC position the indicator goes out.
Note: System indicator "Intelligent Key" may start flashing after turning the ignition switch from the OFF position to the ON position if the system control unit "Intelligent Key" will detect low battery voltage.
Indicator "Intelligent Key" turns on to confirm activation of the anti-theft system. See section "Preparing to start moving".
"Intelligent Key" system malfunction indicator lamp (red color).
After turning the ignition switch to the ON position, the indicator lamp lights up for a few seconds and then goes out. This behavior of the indicator lamp means that the system is working properly.
Note: If the system remote control "Intelligent Key" take out of the car (outside the identification zone of the ID code) through the open door (driver, passenger or rear door), while the ignition switch is in the ACC or ON position, the system malfunction indicator lamp "Intelligent Key" will start flashing and a buzzer will sound. These signals alert the driver to the situation. The indicator lamp will stop flashing as soon as the system remote control "Intellient Key" will end up back in the car.
Indicator "Intelligent Key" turns on to confirm the transition to normal mode. See section "Preparing to start moving"
Caution: If the system malfunction indicator lamp "Intelligent Key" lights up and stays on, this may indicate a system malfunction. Contact a service station for repair.

Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) Malfunction Indicator Lamp
The indicator lamp should come on after turning the ignition key to the ON position. If the anti-lock braking system is functioning properly, the indicator lamp should go out after approximately 1 second.
If the warning light comes on while the engine is running, this may indicate a malfunction of the anti-lock braking system. To check the ABS, contact a service station. The anti-lock braking system regulates the braking torque on the wheels in order to prevent them from locking during sudden braking or during normal braking on a slippery road. The absence of locking eliminates the need to perform complex maneuvers and skidding when braking. If a malfunction occurs, the ABS system is automatically switched off. At the same time, the vehicle's working brake system continues to function normally.
Caution: If the ABS malfunction indicator lamp comes on while driving, contact a service station to have the system repaired.
ESP Dynamic Stability System Off Indicator (if any)
The indicator turns on when the dynamic stabilization system is disabled (oFF position of the switch). The indicator warns the driver that the ESP system is not functioning.
To activate the dynamic stabilization system, press the ESP switch again or start the engine.

Overdrive cut-off indicator (only for models with automatic transmission)
The indicator light illuminates when the overdrive switch button is in the OFF position. Refer to "Starting the engine and driving the car".
The automatic transmission may go into emergency mode if the vehicle is driven under very severe conditions, such as intense wheel spin alternating with emergency braking. This happens even if the electrical system of the automatic transmission is fully functional. In this case, proceed as follows. Turn the ignition key to the OFF position and wait 3 seconds. Then turn the ignition key to the ON position again. The automatic transmission should return to normal operation. If the automatic transmission continues to remain in emergency mode, contact a service station for inspection and repair.
Rear fog light indicator
The indicator lights up when the rear fog light is on.
SLIP indicator (if any)
This indicator flashes when the ESP system is active to warn the driver that the road surface is slippery and the vehicle's traction capabilities are limited.
The system may operate with some jolts or noise, which is not a sign of a malfunction.
The indicator flashes for a few seconds after the ESP system stops partially locking the car's wheels. The indicator comes on after turning the ignition key to the ON position. If the system is working properly, the indicator should go out after about 2 seconds. If the indicator does not come on, contact a service station to have the system checked.
Fog light indicator (if any)
The indicator turns on simultaneously with the fog lights.
Indicator for headlights and side marker lights.
The headlight and side marker light indicator comes on when the corresponding position of the light switch is selected. For more details, see below in paragraph. "Headlight, fog light and turn signal switch".
Indicator for direction indicators and hazard warning lights
The indicator flashes when the direction indicators and hazard warning lights are switched on.
High beam indicator
The indicator lights up after the high beam headlights are turned on. After switching the headlights to low beam, the indicator goes out.
Sound warning signals
Sound signal of lighting not turned off
The signal sounds when the driver's door is opened if the exterior lighting is not turned off. The ignition key may be in the OFF or LOCK position. When leaving the car, turn the light switch to the OFF or AUTO position (if any). See below for details. "Headlight, fog light and turn signal switch".
Sound signal of ignition key left in
The audible signal is activated if the key is left in the ignition and the driver's door is opened while attempting to set the door lock pushbutton switch to the LOCK position. The warning signal is activated after the driver's door is opened if the system remote control is left in the passenger compartment "Intelligent Key" (if any), and the ignition switch is not in the LOCK position. When leaving the vehicle, remove the ignition key and take the system remote control with you "Intelligent Key".
Parking brake reminder buzzer (if any).
The buzzer sounds when the vehicle starts moving if the parking brake is applied. Release the parking brake and only then start moving. See section "Preparing to start moving".
Trailer direction indicator sound signal
The vehicle's electrical system registers the occurrence of an additional electrical load when the towed trailer's lights and turn signals are switched on. As a result, the tone of the turn signal sound changes.
