2. Remove the connecting rods with pistons.
Attention! If no repair work is to be performed on the pistons and connecting rods, there is no need to remove the cylinder head and connecting rod-piston group. The pistons should only be pushed towards the combustion chambers.
3. Check the crankshaft axial clearance (see subsection 3.1.2.9.2), then perform the following operations.
4. Remove the bolts and the rear oil seal holder. If the guide pins are loose, remove them and store them with the holder.

5. The main bearing caps should be numbered from 1 to 5, starting with the front cap (arrows). If there are no numbers, apply marks in white paint that correspond to the ordinal number of the cap and determine its orientation.
6. In the reverse order to that shown in the figure, loosen the main bearing cap bolts, making 1/2 turn at a time. Remove the bolts.
7. Remove the caps and take out the main bearing shells. Tape each shell to its corresponding cap.
8. Carefully remove the crankshaft, making sure that the upper main bearing shells do not move.
9. Remove the upper main bearings from the cylinder block. Tape each bearing to the corresponding cover. Remove the thrust half rings from the 3rd bearing.
